Bluegrass on 3rd continues its tradition of celebrating every corner of bluegrass. This September, we're honored to welcome Laurie Lewis & The Right Hands, whose remarkable career helped broaden and redefine the possibilities of the music. Opening the evening are The Asheville Mountain Boys, a young band dedicated to recapturing the raw drive, spirit, and sound of bluegrass's earliest days.
California bluegrass legend Laurie Lewis has helped shape the sound of bluegrass for more than forty years. As an award-winning singer, songwriter, fiddler, producer, mentor, and Grammy-winning artist. While history rightly celebrates her as a pioneer for women in the genre, her impact reaches far beyond that distinction. Laurie Lewis didn't just help change opportunities in bluegrass, she helped change bluegrass itself.
Opening the night is a band just beginning its story by reaching back to bluegrass's beginnings. The Asheville Mountain Boys are dedicated to recapturing the raw emotion, drive, and authenticity that defined the music in its earliest days. Inspired by the music's earliest pioneers, they've built a reputation for hard-driving, no-frills traditional bluegrass. Their commitment to the roots of bluegrass makes them the perfect complement to an artist whose career has helped shape its future.

Bluegrass Nashville and WMOT’s 89.5 Alive present a special night of live bluegrass featuring The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys with Tennessee WoodPile, Sunday, November 8 at 7 PM.
For more than a decade, The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys have carried their hard-driving, traditional bluegrass sound from stages across America to audiences around the world. Grammy-nominated for Toil, Tears & Trouble and recognized by the International Bluegrass Music Association with an Entertainer of the Year nomination, the band has earned a reputation for playing bluegrass with both deep respect for its roots and an unmistakable energy of their own.
Their latest album, Wanderers Like Me, released by Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, finds the band charging into its second decade with a renewed lineup and the same commitment that has defined them from the beginning: taking bluegrass wherever they can and playing it like they mean it.
Opening the evening is Tennessee WoodPile, a Middle Tennessee band rooted in the sounds of the Stanley Brothers, Flatt & Scruggs, Del McCoury and Larry Sparks, while drawing inspiration from contemporary bluegrass artists including Billy Strings, Missy Raines, Appalachian Road Show and The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys themselves. At its heart, Tennessee WoodPile is about what bluegrass has always done best: bringing good friends, good music and the people who love it together.
